Qld: Libs and Nats to join forces for Senate contest

BRISBANE, Aug 5 AAP - Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce says a joint Senate ticket in
Queensland will work against his party.

Prime Minister John Howard and Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile today announced the
Liberal and National parties would run a combined Senate ticket at this year's federal
election.

Senator Joyce, who campaigned against the move, said he would now work hard to see
a Nationals senator elected.

"I believe, to be completely frank, that the mathematics are against us," he told ABC Radio.

"I believe that currently on polling there would be three Labor Party senators, two
Liberal Party senators and a Green, and I don't wish that.

"So I will be giving my best endeavours to make sure that a National party senator,
even though they are number three on a joint Senate ticket, gets elected."
