NSW: 10 arrested in Deniliquin drug raids

SYDNEY, April 18 AAP - Ten people have been charged with drug and firearm offences
after a two-month covert police operation in south-west New South Wales.

Deniliquin police said they had teamed with Mathoura police and laid 40 charges against
the 10 during the past two months.

The police used covert surveillance techniques during the operation, resulting in eight
people from NSW and two from Victoria being arrested.

Deniliquin Detective Senior Constable Paul Smith said 17 charges were linked to the
supply of cannabis and amphetamines, while the rest related to the possession of drugs,
prohibited weapons and firearms.

Constable Smith said the drug dealing was confined to cross-border supply between Deniliquin
and Mathoura.

The bust had not ended drug problems in the town, and the surveillance operation was
continuing, he said.

The 10 men and women were aged between 20 and 50.

Constable Smith said three people from NSW would face Deniliquin local court today,
while five would face court on May 16.
