NSW: UNSW to open Singapore university
The University of New South Wales has announced plans to establish Singapore's first
foreign university.
UNSW Singapore will be the first wholly-owned and operated research and teaching campus
established overseas by an Australian university.
UNSW deputy vice-chancellor Professor JOHN INGELSON says the university will lead Singapore's
push to make the island state the educational hub of Asia.
Singapore's Trade Minister GEORGE YEO and Professor INGELSON say the university could
hold up to 15,000 students, with at least 70 per cent expected to be foreigners.
The campus will open in February 2007 and have a strong focus on science and technology-based
courses.
